hey guys how are you doing ever since yesterday's video i've realized there's quite a big issue going around in the oculus community and that is updates and i mean yeah that makes sense it's quite a bit larger than i originally thought but there is a lot more users inside the oculus community now a lot of you have received your brand new devices throughout christmas and are now trying to figure out why you are updating later than others or why you haven't received your features yet but everyone

else has so in today's video i'm going to show you not only how to manually update but i will also explain to you why you might not have all the features that everyone else does just yet as usual in case you guys want to skip to any specific part of this video let's say to the installing part you've got chapters down below and without any further ado if you guys like this one make sure to slap that little red button down below and let's get right into it so oculus always has and cont inues to

release their updates on a staggered rollout what does this mean this means that not everybody is going to receive the update at the same time this is done so that if the update has a problem which they have been known to cause in the past oculus can stop the rollout fix the problem and resume it or at least that's how it was mentioned to us i mean some people still have not received 120 hertz so that's why you might not be getting the update at the same time as everyone else oculus even on

their website says that these updates will be released within a week or within a certain week so for example v37 is being released on the week of the 17th which supposedly is still going on so you should receive your update within a week or at least that's what we're told i think i'm still stuck on v35 which is why we're gonna be updating in a little bit but even once you receive your update you might realize that some of your features are not there or are ent irely missing or are just broken

even today basti actually released a twitter post saying hey oculus has actually broken custom homes and they're working on a fix this wasn't done intentionally they broke it and they don't work so they're working on a fix and hopefully will be released very soon quite a sad story for anybody using custom homes and for example v37 is also causing blurriness for some users so you might want to double think about updating i mean i'll be updating anyw ay because i want all the features going back to

the features you might actually not receive them at the same time as other people some people are on v37 but still don't have the features of horizon home still don't have the features of the new action menu and usually a very simple fix for that is to reset experimental settings within your settings panel and that usually fixes it but if that doesn't fix it some people have said changing a region to the us or to the uk depending on whe re you are momentarily fixes all the problems but i mean

it's just kind of stupid the way we have to go through all these loopholes just to get our features working and the fact that not all headsets are made equal is kind of annoying but that's your explanation right there for why you might not be getting your update and your features at the same time as other people and if you don't get your features well it's a little bit more difficult than the update because the update wake a nd force and that is exactly what i'm going to be showing you how to do

right now so every time an update is released a reddit mega thread is created and this time is no different in case you want to be receiving your brand new updates and features from v37 but have not yet received the update you can quite easily just sideload it and i mean yeah this is really simple yes there is a risk involved but the only risk is if you unplug or discharge your device while you're side loading th e update other than that i would say it's perfectly safe just use a trusty

cable i've been doing this pretty much all my life that sounds stupid i haven't done it since birth no but i have been doing it pretty much since forever i root phones i custom rom phones it's just what i do every single one of my phones has a custom firmware on it so i can wholeheartedly say this is probably pretty safe but if you don't feel comfortable doing it don't do it it's that simple either wa y i'm going to take you through exactly how to force update your oculus quest 2 to v37 in case

it's not updating on its own all you're going to need is that v37 mega thread that will of course be down in the description down below and in the pinned comment you've got a zip file from the reddit moderator download that zip file and next thing you are going to need is adb this is where things can get a little bit confusing so the link to adb i will have down in the description below ho wever you need to download the latest adb as some people have said they have issues if you don't download

the latest one this is a system-wide installer which is overall just going to make our lives a lot easier in the future if you ever want to reuse this as you won't need to direct your command prompt to the certain folder it'll just work system wide so download the latest installer as i'm doing right here and extract it double click on it to install adb system wide now to instal l adb system wide all you need to do is keep pressing the letter y and enter and following the prompts that may show

up on the screen and then open up your command prompt in case you guys don't know how to do that it's the windows key and the letter r at the same time bringing up the run box and type cmd press enter this will bring up your command prompt once you guys are inside your command prompt what you will want to do is type adb press enter and if adb is fully working you'll get a string of code just appearing in front of you in the screen don't worry you're not getting hacked it's just adb now what you

want to do is you want to bring up the secret hidden menu on your oculus quest 2. now i'm just joking it's the recovery menu it's kind of like a bios on your computer but it's on your quest what you want to do is you want to turn off your quest and turn it back on by holding the volume down button and the power button at the same time you should see the recovery menu pop up now what you want to do is plug your quest into your computer using a trusty usb type-c cable remember last thing you want

to happen is it to unplug i mean system software might get corrupted use the volume keys to navigate the menu into apply update press the power button to start applying update and next what you want to do is type adb space side load space into your command prompt and drag the zip file into your command prompt your command prompt at this point should look something like this and press enter now you will not be able to drag the file into your command prompt if you're running it in administrator

mode so make sure you're just running it in standard command prompt mode and that's it you're done uh let it side load and once it's done it's going to look like this i think it's a total extra multiplied by two this really shows you how much sound loading i've done in the past and you're gonna be on a black screen now do not get too afraid i usually leave it on this black screen for a little while maybe like two minutes if it doesn't restart after those two minutes force restart it you're

perfectly fine after this point the black screen is perfectly normal so to force restart it just hold the power button for a really really long time until of course you see the oculus logo usually once total x-first shows up that means you're perfectly fine you're done the black screen should go away on its own but it doesn't for some reason and you're gonna be stuck on it for a little while so after you hold the power button your device should boot up and you should be ready to go first boot

might take a little while longer of course because it's after an update so don't be too afraid once it boots up it might start updating your controllers your touch controllers of course so don't be too afraid if those don't move you know there's a lot of don't be too afraid here because you know people do g et afraid when they manually update it's not something you usually do you know the device normally updates on its own but here this is exactly what we're doing so i do feel the need to

tell people hey don't be worried this is normal after that you should be able to go into your experimental settings and check out all the new features that you have received now some people are saying horizon homes isn't active yet should be active sometime next week tuesday fridays there's real ly contradicting opinions on this but for some reason you can't move around in your horizon home just yet so don't be afraid there again okay that's getting old either way that's it you're on the update

you can go into the about tab to make sure you're on v37 and there you are now a big question people have after they manually update is will their device automatically update after they manually update once as in will you continue to get official updates yes yes you will this is offi cial system software your app will continue working and everything like that so there you guys are i felt the need to make this video i had so many comments yesterday asking me why they haven't received the update

yet is the update out and where are their features so i hope this video explains that for you guys i hope you now know why some people get the updates earlier than others and how you can manually update your oculus quest 2 to any firmware version ever because this is the same for literally any firmware version in fact i had an older video but i feel like it was a little bit outdated it didn't have all the information needed so i decided to make a new one we have a lot to talk about in
