New Quest 2 Update for 2022 is HERE!

New Quest 2 Update for 2022 is HERE!

welcome to frailty recap for your crazy vr and ar news we had news from xbox buying activation blizzard to news about apple's own vr headset but probably the craziest news we had was a big update to the quest 2. now before we get into it make sure you completely destroy that subscribe button and with that said let's dive right in the quest 2 gets new updates almost every month and with these updates come new features or options that you can use with this one being called the v37 update and

just like the ones that came before this one also unlocks some amazing new features now firstly there's support for a brand new keyboard which is specifically the apple magic keyboard and once your update is installed you will be able to switch on support for this device in the settings under quest 2 experimental features and this means your headset will be able to track the position of your device and show it inside vr and this is now the second keyboard that you can add to your que st too with

the first one being the logitech 830 that came earlier this year and with this meta is bringing actual objects into virtual reality with the goal of eventually completely replacing your tv or computer now elsewhere the v37 introduces a new feature that is called link sharing which lets you simply share a website link with your headset through the oculus app and it will then directly take you to the shared link when you put your quest on even though this sounds as a very s imple feature it has

been missing for a very long time because until now you would have to memorize this link and then be able to type it in again or you would have to go to the whole google search from the start to find what you were looking for and being able to share the link with just the press of a button makes this a lot easier now do keep in mind that this feature right now is only available for android with the ios support supposedly coming soon as well but perhaps maybe e ven more interesting is that there

is a new quick action menu specifically made for hand tracking now besides using the controllers the quest 2 also has the capability of tracking just your hands and previously you could pinch your thumb and index finger to effectively press the oculus button which will then grant you access to the same menu you would see on your touch controllers but with v37 this pinching motion will now instead bring up a quick menu that is specifically made for hand tracking and it will include things like

options to take a direct screenshot or activate voice commands instead of bringing the whole menu up directly now there are a couple of games and experiences that make use of this hand tracking feature however most traditional vr games still make use of the vr controllers but it seems that meta is really trying to push the hand tracking feature hopefully keeping in mind that maybe in the future we will see some vr haptic gloves now fina lly this update will also allow you to change your display

modes for your 2d panels which are now separate in two modes one being the tablet mode and the other one being the desktop mode with the tablet mode essentially being the same as your existing setup with a larger window closer to you but the desktop mode will enable you to move the displays further away allowing you to more easily multitask being able to use multiple tabs at the same time and there have also been some smalle r minor tweaks in the explore section of the menu and overall this v37

update is definitely packed with a lot of new features but a lot of us were also expecting to get a first peek at the horizon home multiplayer feature but hopefully we will see that come back in the next update which brings us directly into the next crazy story which is that xbox is buying activation blizzard which could also have a huge impact for vr now microsoft who owns xbox just did something insane because they bought activation blizzard for a whopping 68 billion dollars and by doing so

shocking the whole gaming industry and even though this ridiculous amount of money this will give microsoft the keys to the call of duty franchise but also overwatch world of warcraft and many many more but it could also have a huge impact for vr now microsoft or more specifically the xbox brand hasn't been making any vr headsets over the past year and their biggest competitor being playstation alread y made their first vr headset over five years ago with the new playstation vr2 coming out soon

but until now xbox has not dipped their toes in the vr space even though of their announcement at the xbox one x which specifically mentioned that it is capable of creating vr experiences but soon after reports claimed that microsoft had shelved the plans for creating any vr headset for the xbox franchise however microsoft themselves already have a line of windows mixed reality headsets of which most of them never really became popular with the few exceptions like the most recent hp reverb g2

but the fact that microsoft already owns a line of vr headsets and that their xbox consoles are vr compatible it is definitely odd that they never added them together with sony right now taking the whole console vr market and even preparing now for their next ps vr2 with no competition inside this could be a devastating blow in the console war between microsoft and sony now buy ing activation blizzard might have a big impact on this because it will add to an already significant list of gaming

series to help define a new era of vr with games like halo elder scrolls and doom and now also call of duty and world of warcraft because these aren't just popular games they are actual legacy brands and just imagine the impact of halo vr or a native elder scrolls game or even a mainstream call of duty vr title now in the near future microsoft still hasn't announced anything about making their own vr headset but i think that this might be their best and last chance to step into the vr space and

actually creating some competition for sony because if they don't step in soon it might be too late now before we get into the next crazy news about apple's own vr headset a quick word from the company that made this video possible if you are using your quest to wirelessly you might be running into some issues with your connection if you have to share yo ur wifi with multiple people then you might want to check out the gaming bridge from nexus link because this will allow you to have a direct

connection with your router and by doing so reducing your lag and latency drastically if you're interested i will leave a link in the description below and you can use the code relative 15 for 15 off of your total purchase now let's get right back into it apple has been working on creating their own vr headset but it turns out that it has bee n delayed to next year because of some big development changes now apple's upcoming vr headset was normally supposed to release this year but a recent

report shows that there has been development challenges like overheating but also camera and software issues now these thermal challenges are probably because of the standalone headset chipset which is said to be similar to the power of an m1 pro chip which right now is also in the latest macbook pros which would be over 10 times more powerful than the chip that is inside the quest 2. now it is also said that apple is using inside out tracking and capabilities for pass-through ar and as for

software and is said that the standalone headset will run an operating system that is called ros well beforehand it was rumored that they were working on a full-fledged ar device it seems now more likely that a dedicated ar headset will be further into the future however the upcoming vr headset is rumored to be equippe d with room skill hand tracking and eye tracking built into it with the device having a dual 8k display and probably coming in at a price point of around three thousand dollars now

even though this would be one of the most expensive vr headsets they could still create some big competition for a company like meta and this is mainly due to apple's brand name and meanwhile meta is also creating their project cambria which is said to be a direct competitor to that one of apple being also at the higher end of the price spectrum so it won't be long anymore before we see some crazy competition in the vr space and talking about meta gets us into the next crazy story because the

ftc is investigating meta's competitive practices now the ftc is the united states federal trade commission and recently they opened an anti-trust probe into meta's acquisition of the vr fitness platform called supernatural and they stated the following the world's largest social media company m ay be using its market's power in vr space to stifle competition and this includes that they want to ask about meta sales strategy for the quest 2 which is priced a lot lower compared to the competition

now facebook has got a lot of anti-trust or anti-competitive investigations in the past but to be honest i think that this one is kind of a stretch because filing an anti-competitive practice for the acquisition of the vr fitness platform supernatural seems a bit strange even though this might be a great fitness app it is not even reaching in their top 10 best selling titles let alone creating an anti-competitive practice for other vr platforms and their second argument of the price of the quest

2 being lower than anything in their competition seems also counter-intuitive to me because a company can charge whatever they want for a certain product but charging a lower price compared to others should not be something that gets punished but quite the opposite and sh ould be encouraged instead because the lower the price of vr headsets get the easier it is for new users to get into it and talking about anti-competition like we talked about before xbox just bought activation blizzard for over

68 billion and while that is a way bigger deal than a vr fitness platform like supernatural that however is not looked at as anti-competitive practices which i personally find very odd and even though i know that meta and facebook definitely have their share o f trust issues regarding the privacy of your data and personal information i do not think that a company should be punished for creating a good vr headset for a lower price than everybody else but with that said that was this crazy vr news

now if you enjoyed it make sure you show it by completely destroying that subscribe button and while you're at it make sure you destroy that like button as well and if you like vr and ar news then check out the videos you see on screen right now an
